Description

This hand specimen measures 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches (9 x 9 x 4 cm). The spinel occurs as purplish pink, gemmy, octahedrals in white marble. The chondrodite occurs as orange, gemmy, prisms. The specimen also contains many colorless prisms that are likely to be sapphire; this specimen has the best examples and will make for some interesting detective work. Stands well on its own. Under long-wave UV the sapphire is readily identifiable, and the spinel is strongly reactive, to the point of having to consider that this specimen may originate in Myanmar.
