Sphalerite – Elmwood Mine, Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee, USA

From Tennessee and the famous Elmwood Mine comes this spectacular top-shelf specimen of Sphalerite (Zinc Sulfide) with Calcite (Calcium Carbonate). A wonderful display specimen, the Sphalerite crystals are deep, dark red–so much so that they appear black in reflected light. When you shine a light through them, the red color becomes visible, and is quite remarkable!
