Chalcanthite for Sale

Chalcanthite (primary) The Planet Mine, La Paz Co., Arizona, USA

An exceptional specimen of Chalcanthite (hydrous Copper Sulfate) from recent diggings at the Planet Mine in Arizona. Bright electric blue crystals, many of them slightly curved, jut proudly from the matrix–this specimen wants to be on display!. Individual crystals to 1″, 2.5cm, coat nearly the entire specimen, filling in seams in the host rock.  The color on this specimen is incredibly amazing–one of the brightest blue’s I personally have ever seen from the Planet Mine, one of the largest specimens I have ever had (of Chalcanthite from the Planet Mine), and truly a top-shelf specimen for the collector of fine minerals.  This is not ‘smelter-chimney’ recovery, or a lab-made mineral, as many Chalcanthite’s on the market today are. Chalcanthite is a primary ore of Copper at the Planet Mine. The color has not been enhanced or treated in any way, this is how the mineral occurs naturally, and this is how the specimen came out of the ground.

What is Chalcanthite

Chalcanthite is natural, water-soluble copper sulphate. A secondary mineral that is formed in arid climates or in rapidly oxidizing copper deposits. Chalcanthite is usually of post-mining formation, forming on mine walls and by the action of acidic surface waters on copper veins.
